Award for DELICATESSEN

Green Buddy Award

Attentive social media followers have known this for a long time – but we would like to mention it again here. We would like to congratulate our supporting member Delikatessen for being honoured with the Green Buddy Award for their achievements in the field of sustainability.

On June 6, 2024, for the thirteenth time, young people and companies who have made environmental protection and sustainability a heartfelt matter were honored. The Green Buddy Award 2024 recognized exceptional projects and ideas in six categories that promote an eco-friendly and sustainable future. Since 2011, the jury has acknowledged 53 companies and initiatives for their commitment out of 409 applications. And one of the winners was Fundus and our loyal partner Delikatessen. Congratulations!

Here’s what Susanne Hein and Deli have been doing as part of their ESG policy – taken from the website: As a company, we have recognized our responsibility towards the environment from the very beginning and are committed to finding sustainable solutions for conducting our business. Our contemporary props and equipment are mostly produced in Europe and are repairable. We operate workshops with different trades to repair damaged items. We have been heating CO2-neutrally with wood pellets since 2005. In 2020, we installed a solar system on the roof of our timber constructed halls built in 2015 (one of the first in Berlin), which we use to cover an average of 35% of our own electricity needs per year. A wind turbine was installed this summer to cover our energy needs a little more sustainably at night. Since 2014, we have gradually built up a reusable packaging system with company-owned boxes and self-produced rental blankets to avoid unnecessary waste. For years, we have been using reusable Euro boxes and our own packaging covers to avoid the use of conventional cardboard boxes and bubble wrap. From 2014 to 2023, we saved 20,500 boxes as a result – that corresponds to a total CO2 reduction of 13 tons. Thanks to our packaging covers, we have managed to save an amount of bubble wrap that is equivalent to the area of 14 football fields.
