A new magazine on costume and production design

In 2021 our German Member Verband der Berufsgruppen Szenenbild und Kostümbild e.V. (VSK) published its first newspaper, the VSK-Zeitung. Since we know, that print papers are neither good for the climate, nor a rising medium anymore, the VSK decided, to do the 2024 issue as an online magazine: “Vom Sehen Können” – an iteration of the association’s abbreviation VSK: About being able to see. hat title could not better describe one of the main aspects of our professions: to see, what also means to recognise and to realise. We invite you to discover the new VSK magazine, which has been online since mid-July! And yes, it’s also in English!

What is it about? Current issues from AI to clichés in costume design, sources of inspiration outside and inside the film world, painting and patina, family friendliness, image rights, international exchange and work reports – and that’s not all! The production designer and costume designer Monika Bauert vividly describes how she, as a costume designer, tackled the major project DAS BOOT 43 years ago without the Internet or a mobile phone, and our honorary member Lothar Holler is portrayed by screenwriter Bernd Lichtenberg – and that’s not all.

You can look forward to 22 contributions from our ranks. Feel free to share and forward, because this is another way we can achieve greater visibility!
